I was amazed by the cleanliness of the old hotel
I came to Beijing for a business trip and stayed for 4 consecutive nights. I thought that an old hotel that I had been in for more than 30 years would have some minor flaws in its cleanliness. However, after staying, I was immediately impressed by the cleanliness of Beijing Poly Plaza Hotel - there was no "model room style cleanliness" on the surface, and even the details in every corner were cleaned up thoroughly, without any hard hygiene problems.
The moment I opened the door to check in, my first feeling was refreshing, without the stuffy or damp smell commonly seen in old hotels. The air was only a faint scent of disinfectant mixed with laundry detergent. I habitually reached out to touch the top of the door frame and the corners of the TV cabinet, which are prone to dust accumulation. My fingertips were clean and there was no floating dust at all. Even in the gaps between the window tracks, I couldn't see any hair falling off, indicating that I had really put in effort while cleaning.
The most reassuring thing is the cleanliness of the bedding. The pure white sheets and covers are laid flat and neat, without any wrinkles or yellowing marks. You can smell the cotton and linen fragrance that has only been exposed to sunlight. I deliberately lifted the pillow and touched the corners of the pillowcase, even the gaps that were easily overlooked when it was flat were clean and there were no residual broken hair. The details of the bathroom are even more surprising. The glass door of the shower room is wiped clean and transparent, without any water stains or scale. The ceramic sanitary ware on the countertop is so bright that it can reflect people's shadows. Even the edges of the toilet and the gaps in the floor drain, which are severely affected areas, are cleaned up spotlessly, without any odor floating out.

But compared to many internet famous hotels with shiny surfaces and dirty details, the cleanliness of Beijing Poly Plaza Hotel is tangible, allowing you to walk barefoot on the carpet without worrying about getting dirty. Coming to Dongcheng District, Beijing for business, I casually booked Beijing Poly Plaza Hotel. Originally, I only hoped for the convenience of the subway when I went out. After staying for three nights, I realized that this old hotel, which opened in 1990, has no sense of restlessness like internet famous hotels. It has thoroughly integrated the concept of "comfortable living" into every detail.
The experience of checking in was particularly relaxed. The front desk spoke authentic Beijing dialect without overly enthusiastic formalities. During the gap of checking information, they casually arranged a room facing south in the high area for me, saying that it had good lighting and could avoid sporadic traffic downstairs. They even casually reminded me of the time when the hot water in the room would reach the appropriate temperature. Pushing open the 35 square meter door, the first impression is openness and brightness, without the oppressive feeling of being cramped in a new hotel of the same price range. The warm toned solid wood furniture has a warm texture polished by countless guests, without the pungent odor of new decoration, only a comfortable feeling that has been settled by time. Looking up, the outline of the Workers' Gymnasium in the distance is clearly visible, and the smoke and fire of old Beijing, separated by the double layered soundproof windows, just becomes the gentle background of the room.
The most surprising thing is the sleeping experience. The thick double-layer soundproof glass isolates the sound of traffic on the East Second Ring Road and the laughter of neighbors in the alley outside the window. As someone who is particularly sensitive to sound, I slept until dawn for three consecutive nights without being awakened by late night noises. The softness and hardness of the mattress are just right, not the kind that is soft enough to sink in. It provides enough support to run for a whole day, and the waist will completely relax within ten minutes of lying down. The bedding is washed fluffy and soft, with a faint scent of sunlight laundry detergent. Even the pillows are prepared with buckwheat and down. As someone who is accustomed to high pillows, I don't have to call the front desk to ask for it. Lying down, I just found the most comfortable position.

Even after taking a hot shower, you can wash away your fatigue with the water flow. The mini bar in the room doesn't have fancy high priced drinks. It has two free bottles of local mineral water and two packs of old Beijing style flower tea. If you want to make a hot drink, you don't have to go downstairs to buy it.
The experience of breakfast was also far beyond expectation. There was no expensive imported ingredients piled up. It was all solid Beijing home style: fried coke rings were crisp, fermented sour milk made from ground mung bean wow gold was delicious with pickles, and even the glutinous millet porridge was warm to the stomach. After breakfast, I sat on the retro sofa in the hotel lobby for two minutes, listening to the leisurely chatter of the old Beijing residents next to me, and even the tension of rushing was relieved.
Of course, as a well-established hotel, it does not have the ubiquitous intelligent delivery robots, and some of the carpets in the corridors carry faint traces of time. But compared to those new hotels that only rely on check-in points to attract attention, the comfort of Beijing Poly Plaza Hotel is tangible - it doesn't deliberately try to please anyone, but simply achieves the bottom line of 'making people stay at ease'.
